WORK THAT MATTERS
Community Based Policing
The Burlington Police Department is the largest Municipal agency in Vermont. The agency consists of 105 Sworn Officers and 40 civilian staff. The Burlington Police Department focuses on community-based policing, an approach that is all about serving the needs of Burlington’s residents.
“Community” is defined as “a group of people living together in one place, especially one practicing common ownership” as well as “a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals.” These notions are at the heart of our approach to policing. We work in assigned areas which, allows Officers to get to know the businesses and residents on a personal level. We saturate neighborhoods that produce the most call volume with increased foot patrols so we are seen, approachable and available.

Our Vision
We aspire to be the foremost police agency in the nation by embracing community-based policing in our philosophy, organization and strategy.
